Seeking Military-friendly community colleges in California

I'm about to start applying to community colleges in California and, as an active duty military member, I'm wondering which ones are particularly military-friendly. Anyone have any experiences or recommendations to share?

Military and veteran-friendly institutions recognize the unique needs and experiences of service members transitioning into a college environment. In California, several community colleges go above and beyond to support military students.

One highly-regarded college is San Diego Mesa College, which has a dedicated Military & Veterans Programs office that offers counseling, tuition assistance, and other specialized services.

Another strong choice is Palomar College, located in San Marcos. Palomar offers a Veterans Services department that provides academic counseling and certifies veterans for their VA benefits. The college also has a Veterans Resource Center where students can access computers, printers, and study spaces.

Sierra College, located in Rocklin, has a Veterans Success Center that offers academic guidance, peer support, and work-study opportunities for the VA work-study program. They also host a series of workshops and events to help veterans transition to college life.

Finally, Citrus College, located in Glendora, houses a Veterans Success Center providing assistance with registration, financial aid, and academic planning. They also host VetNet Ally seminars to educate faculty and staff about the experiences of military students.

Remember, beyond explicit military programs, resources and community are integral to your academic success. Check out the school's student organizations, tutoring services, and availability of online or night classes that accommodate your schedule. Reviewing these factors can give you a comprehensive view of what each institution offers. Good luck with your applications and thank you for your service!
