Seeking advice for best colleges in Northern Virginia with strong Music programs?

Hi all! I've been playing the violin as long as I can remember and I can't imagine taking a different path for my major. Are there any great 4-year colleges in Northern Virginia for a Music major? I'd appreciate any suggestions or experiences.

Sure, happy to help! In Northern Virginia, George Mason University (GMU) is recognized for its School of Music. GMU offers a variety of music-related degrees, including Music Performance, Music Education, and Music Technology. It also has a lot of ensembles to choose from, such as the University Symphony Orchestra, which could be an excellent opportunity for you to continue your violin practice.

Another option to consider, albeit a little further south, is James Madison University. Their School of Music is part of the College of Visual and Performing Arts and offers majors in Music, Music Education, and Music Industry. Moreover, they have strong orchestral and ensemble programs.

Do remember that top-tier music programs often require auditions as part of the admission process, so preparing for that will be crucial. You might consider taking a campus tour or attending a performance to get a better sense of the musical culture at these schools.
