Colleges for Veterans Only?

Hello everyone, I'm a junior and my plan after high school is to join the military, then attend college. I heard there might be colleges specifically for prior military? Can someone explain more or share some names, if possible?

Sure, I'd be happy to elaborate on this. There aren't colleges strictly for veterans, but there are universities and colleges that have programs specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of veterans and active-duty personnel. These programs are designed to leverage the skills and experiences gained during military service while also providing a supportive academic environment.

For instance, the Warrior-Scholar Project is a program that helps transitioning veterans to adapt to college life. The program offers immersive academic boot camps for enlisted military veterans, held at partnering universities such as Yale and Harvard.

Many colleges also have Veterans Services offices, which could be tremendously helpful in providing resources, counseling, and help in transitioning to civilian and college life. They also help to ensure that you maximize any benefits from the GI Bill.

As for colleges known for their strong support for veterans, Syracuse University's Institute for Veterans and Military Families offers educational and vocational programs for veterans and their families. University of Southern California, Columbia University, and Georgetown University also offer comprehensive resources and support for veterans' education through their Office of Military and Veterans Affairs.

Finally, the Serviceman's Readjustment Act of 1944 - also known as the GI Bill - provides significant financial support for veterans to attend college.

While attending college as a veteran certainly comes with its unique challenges, many schools are equipped with comprehensive support systems to assist you throughout. So while no college is purely veterans-only, many are very veteran-friendly and offer significant benefits and support.
