Michigan colleges for Military Personnel?

Hi, I am a high school junior considering the military after school, and later on, college. I am planning to stay in Michigan. Does anyone know about colleges in Michigan that offer programs or benefits for the military personnel?

Absolutely, there are quite a few colleges in Michigan that cater to military personnel and veterans with special programs and benefits.

One notable institution is the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor, which has a robust Services for Students with Disabilities office that can provide both mental health counseling and physical accommodations for veterans. Moreover, the university acknowledges lower-division transfer credits gained through military training and experience, subject to the recommendation of the American Council on Education (ACE).

Central Michigan University (CMU) is another excellent option. It is designated as a Military Friendly School, meaning it has programs in place to support military students, including veterans and their families. Some of these benefits include credit for military training, a tuition reduction for active-duty military personnel, and priority registration dates.

Eastern Michigan University (EMU) also deserves mention. It offers the Military and Veterans Services office, which provides services designed to help military students transition to college life and succeed academically. Furthermore, EMU grants credit for military training and experiences based on ACE guidelines.

Lastly, Michigan State University has the Student Veterans Resource Center, which provides resources and support for veterans, service members, and their dependents.

Different colleges may have slightly different procedures in place to accommodate veterans or current military personnel, and the best fit will largely depend on your specific needs and circumstances. It may be helpful for you to reach out directly to these universities for more detailed information on their specific offerings for the military community.
