Which Texas colleges recognize military credits?

Hey all, does anyone know of any colleges in Texas that accept credits from military training? And what's the deal with transferring this type of credit?

When it comes to recognizing military credits, many colleges and universities in Texas have policies in place. Here are a few notable ones:

1. The University of Texas at Austin: UT Austin offers credit for military training, courses, and occupations as recommended by the American Council on Education (ACE). You'll need to provide your Joint Services Transcript (JST) or Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) transcript for evaluation.

2. Texas A&M University: This university accepts credit for certain military training and experience, but specific credits awarded vary by department. It's recommended to secure a transcript from JST or CCAF and to consult with an advisor in your chosen field of study.

3. Texas State University: Texas State, like UT Austin, accepts credits from JST or the CCAF. They have a team of dedicated staff members who will assist in the evaluation process.

As for transferring military credits, here's the basic process:

After you're admitted into a college, you'll need to request a military transcript from your branch of service. For Army, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard, this would be your JST. For the Air Force, it's your CCAF transcript. This transcript will outline the training you've received and the academic credits recommended by the ACE. Once your chosen institution has your transcript, they will evaluate it to determine how many and what type of credits can be granted.

Keep in mind that although a school may adopt ACE’s credit recommendations, it’s ultimately up to each individual institution to determine how credits are awarded and applied to programs. It's always a good idea to speak with an admissions officer or academic advisor to understand more about this process at each specific university. They will be able to guide you on the best way to proceed based on your unique situation and the detailed information within your military transcript.
