COMSEC Manager: College Credit Possibilities?

I'm really interested in communications security (COMSEC) and I've seen the military offers positions like COMSEC Manager. Does anyone know if the training and experience for such roles could translate into college credits once I decide to pursue higher education?

Absolutely! Many military training programs and experiences, like serving as a COMSEC Manager, can indeed translate into college credits. The American Council on Education (ACE) works closely with the Department of Defense (DoD) to review military training and experiences and recommend them for college credit. So, once you've undertaken your COMSEC Manager training, you can request your Joint Service Transcript (JST), which includes ACE credit recommendations.

That said, whether or not a particular college or university accepts these credits can vary widely. Each institution has its own policies regarding the transfer of credits, and how much they will accept can depend on the school, the specific program of study, and even the individual course requirements.

In some cases, military experience and training could count as elective credits or towards general education requirements. In other cases, especially if your degree is in a field closely related to your military role, such as cybersecurity, certain experiences may count towards your major requirements.

Do keep in mind that it's always a smart idea to consult with an admissions officer or academic advisor at the colleges or universities you're considering to understand their policies and requirements regarding credit for military experience. They can guide you through the process and give you a clearer idea of what to expect.
