Best institutions for military-related courses?

I'm an aspiring military historian, and I'm starting to prepare my college application list. Any suggestions for colleges or universities known for their military history programs?

For your college search, there are several institutions known for their established programs on military history.

Norwich University and the Virginia Military Institute are excellent places to start. Norwich University, in particular, is the oldest private college in the country to offer courses on military strategy and history.

On the other hand, the Virginia Military Institute emphasizes leadership and military discipline while also offering coursework and research in military history.

The United States Military Academy, better known as West Point, also has a strong emphasis on military history. A focus on military strategy and history here are embedded in their curriculum, which balances liberal arts with leadership and military tactics.

Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., boasts a strong history department, with a particular interest in military history. Its location in the capital also provides students with unique opportunities for internships related to military history and policy.

Finally, Ohio State University has one of the most comprehensive military history programs in the nation. Though not a military school, its department of history has a strong military history faculty and offers a broad range of courses on the topic.

Remember, it's important to visit these schools (if you can) or speak with current students or alumni to get a feel for which could be the best fit for you.
