Art History Majors - What's the Best College?

I've been into art history for a while now, and I'm thinking about committing to this passion. Are there any top colleges out there that excel in art history? I'd really appreciate your thoughts!

Absolutely, art history can be a fascinating field to study! You might want to consider institutions such as Yale University, Harvard University, and Columbia University. Yale is known for having one of the largest and most dynamic art history departments in the U.S, offering a global approach to the discipline. Harvard, on the other hand, has strong cross-disciplinary opportunities with anthropology and classics respectively, as well as a world-class museum right on campus. Columbia, just like Harvard, has a strong art history program and provides students exposure to the New York City art scene. These universities all have well-rounded art history programs with great faculty and access to local museums for practical learning.

The University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) and New York University (NYU) are other strong contenders. UC Berkeley has a diverse Art History Department that lets students explore different cultures through art, and is situated in a location rich with art offerings with easy access to museums and galleries in San Francisco. NYU is located in the heart of New York City’s vibrant art scene and offers a broad-based, interdisciplinary curriculum. Plus, there are numerous internships and job opportunities in the city.

Another option worth considering is Williams College, which has an exceptional track record in art history. The program there is quite distinctive, offering a mix of art history and studio art courses. The college also runs two art museums on campus. Moreover, the relatively small class sizes often provide a more personalized learning experience. It's a great college especially if you're interested in studying in a liberal arts environment where you can engage deeply with your peers and professors.
