Does anyone think it's necessary to fill out all 10 activity slots on the Common App? I have a few solid extracurriculars I'm passionate about but don't want to add fluff just to hit the number. Will colleges care if all 10 aren't filled?
It's more important to present a few extracurriculars that you're genuinely passionate about and where you've shown real commitment and leadership than to fill every slot for the sake of it. Colleges are looking for depth over breadth—showcasing impactful participation and achievements in fewer activities is often more impressive than throwing on random things you did once upon a time just to fill the slots.
That being said, if there are activities that may seem less "flashy" but that are genuinely meaningful to you, like a hobby or passion project you've pursued just for fun, then, by all means, include them—colleges like to get a full picture of who you are, especially in less "formal" contexts. But don't stress about hitting 10 just for the sake of it. Admissions officers are adept at discerning authentic engagement, so focus on detailing the impact and your personal development through your activities.
Good luck filling out your activities list!
