What college major for someone who loves math?

Okay, so I'm weird and I actually love math. There, I said it. With that in mind, any recommendations for college majors that would let me immerse myself in numbers?

Of course, the most clear-cut choice for you, given your passion, would be a Mathematics major. However, there are many other majors that heavily incorporate mathematics and would still let you indulge in your love for numbers.

Physics, Computer Science, and Economics are three other fields in math-heavy domains you might find interesting. Physics deals with the fundamental principles of the universe and often requires complex mathematical calculations. Computer science also involves a fair amount of mathematics especially if you go into fields like machine learning or algorithm design.

Studying Economics, on the other hand, would provide you with a great opportunity to use mathematical models to understand how economies function. In this case, math becomes a tool for predicting and understanding societal trends and fiscal policy.

Another path that is less conventional but equally valid would be a concentration in Actuarial Science if offered by your institution. Actuaries use statistics and financial theory to study uncertain future events, especially those of concern to insurance and pension programs.

Finally, if you wish to apply your love for math in more practical or applied settings, Engineering fields (like Electrical or Civil) or Statistics could be good options. Engineering relies on math for designing and analyzing systems. Statistics focuses on collecting, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data.

Keep in mind that while all of these disciplines involve math, they do so in different ways. Ideally, dive a bit deeper into each to see which aligns best with your passion and career aspirations.
