Hunting for the Best Vet Major Colleges in California

Hey there! I absolutely adore animals and I'm considering a major in Veterinary Studies. Any recommendations for top colleges in California for this field?

Absolutely, California has a number of strong programs for students interested in veterinary studies.

A standout in the field is the University of California, Davis' College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. It's well-recognized for its programs in Animal Science and Animal Biology. In fact, UC Davis is considered to have one of the top veterinary medicine programs in the world. One of the main advantages here is that an undergraduate student with these majors can gain exposure and opportunities at the highest ranked veterinary school.

Another good option is California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. They have an excellent Animal Science program with various concentrations such as pre-veterinary, livestock and dairy industries, and equine science to consider. With their “Learn by Doing” philosophy, you'll get tons of hands-on experience working with animals.

Also worth noting is California State Polytechnic University in Pomona. They offer an Animal Health Science B.S program where you'll get lots of practical experience interacting with various animals. Add to that, having an on-campus veterinary clinic can provide a unique opportunity for students to gain firsthand experience.

Lastly, while not a full degree program, Stanford University has a Comparative Medicine program. This offers you the opportunity to conduct research alongside professional veterinarians in a laboratory setting. It might be a good path if you're also considering a research component in your career.

Remember, the best program for you is the one that aligns with your personal interests and career goals, as well as one that provides you with the most opportunities to gain hands-on experience. Best of luck in your college search and future veterinary studies!
