Searching for Top Colleges for English and Music Dual Major

Hey there, I’m really passionate about English lit and music, and I'm thinking of double majoring in college. Does anyone know of colleges that excel in both these fields? Any tips would be great.

Sure, there are a number of schools known for strong programs in both English Literature and Music. Some options include:

1. University of California, Berkeley: Berkeley has one of the top rated English programs in the nation as well as a strong department of Music. Their English department is renowned for the breadth of its offerings, while their music department combines traditional musicology with innovative interdisciplinary studies.

2. Columbia University: Columbia's English program is very well regarded. Their music program is also top-notch, with renowned faculty and a particular strength in composition. Plus, they offer opportunities to perform in New York City, one of the world's finest cultural scenes.

3. University of Michigan: The English Department at Michigan is recognized for its robust faculty and diverse course offerings. It also hosts one of the best Music, Theatre & Dance schools, which excels in both performance and scholarly aspects of music.

4. Oberlin College: Oberlin has a great English program and is also home to a Conservatory of Music. Its dual degree program enables students to earn both a Bachelor of Arts (from College of Arts and Sciences) and Bachelor of Music (from the Conservatory) in five years.

When looking at schools, you'll want to consider factors such as class size, faculty-to-student ratio, access to musical instruments and practice rooms, performing opportunities, as well as internship and job placement rates post graduation. Also look at the requirements for each major - some schools may allow more overlap than others, which will make it easier to complete both degrees. If possible, try and visit the schools or attend virtual tours and ask current students about their experiences in these departments.

It's great that you have identified your academic interests and are looking for a program that supports them. Good luck with your college search!
