Major for pursuing FBI career?

Hey people, I've been thinking a lot about my future career pathways and am really interested in the FBI. What would y'all recommend are the best college majors to get into the FBI? Also, would it be more beneficial to take up something like criminal justice or instead opt for a tech or science field?

The FBI hires from a broad variety of academic backgrounds, so there isn’t really a "one-size-fits-all" answer to your question. However, some majors can indeed be more directly relevant to certain roles within the FBI.

For instance, if you're interested in investigative roles, a major like Criminal Justice, Sociology, or Psychology can provide a solid foundation of knowledge about the criminal justice system and behavioral patterns. Also, a major in Forensic Science or Chemistry can be very useful if you're interested in forensic investigations.

On the other hand, the FBI is also recruiting heavily in areas like Cybersecurity, Computer Science, and Information Systems due to the increasing prevalence of cybercrimes. These majors are key in combating digital crime, a rapidly growing area where there's a significant demand for skilled professionals.

If you're geared towards intelligence analysis, International Relations, Political Science, or Languages (particularly Middle Eastern, Eastern European, and Asian languages) can be beneficial as well.

Moreover, the FBI also hires for a variety of administrative and logistic roles, so majors such as Business, Finance, and Human Resources are also relevant.

The key isn't necessarily choosing the "right" major, but developing the skills and knowledge that would be beneficial in an FBI role. Regardless of your choice, having a robust academic profile, a demonstrated commitment to public service, strong analytical skills, and physical fitness are all important aspects of becoming a competitive candidate for the FBI.

Please consult an academic advisor or career counselor who can help you map out the classes, internships, and other relevant experiences that align with your career goals. And remember that while your major is important, there are also many other factors such as internships, extracurricular activities, and work experience that can contribute to your eventual career in the FBI.

In terms of specifics, you might also want to look at the FBI's Collegiate Hiring Initiative or their Honors Internship Program to gain practical experience and make connections within the bureau, which could be beneficial in your journey to join the FBI.
