The True Brown Experience?

Hey folks! Brown is one of my dream schools, but I'd love to hear from actual students—what's your day-to-day like? Is the Open Curriculum as freeing as they say, and how do people generally feel about the campus culture?

Hello there! With the Open Curriculum, many students absolutely love the freedom to shape their academic journey. For example, a Biology major with a passion for literature would be able to balance science courses with creative writing, and might even dabble in some philosophy classes! The Open Curriculum also means that students need to be self-motivated and disciplined because you won't have general education requirements to structure your path—you'll build it yourself.

As for the culture, students often find it very collaborative and vibrant. Students are encouraged to pursue their interests with gusto, and it's quite common to see groups banding together for various projects and study groups. In terms of the day-to-day, it's not just about classes; it's the discussions at the dining hall, the informal study sessions on the Main Green, and the plethora of extracurriculars that keep her schedule full but exciting.

The general feeling is that the vibe on campus is generally positive and laid back, with an intellectual buzz that's palpable. Many students also notice a strong emphasis on social justice and activism, which aligns with their own values. In fact, the sense of community and mutual support is one of the things that draws many to Brown in the first place.

I hope this gives you a little window into what being a student at Brown could be like!
