Major for a Future Homicide Detective?

Bit of an unusual one here, but I'm hoping to become a homicide detective in the future. Anyone have any ideas on the best major for this career path?

Starting on your path to becoming a homicide detective is indeed a long yet rewarding journey. It usually requires a solid understanding of criminal justice principles, investigative techniques, and the legal system.

Since the goal is to work as a homicide detective, it could be beneficial to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or Criminology. This foundation could provide an excellent starting point for a career in law enforcement.

That said, Forensic Science could be another vital area of study. Here, you'd learn about the collection and analysis of physical evidence, which is absolutely critical in solving homicides. This includes studying subjects like chemistry, biology, and physics, as well as specific courses on forensic methods related to trace evidence, DNA, fingerprints, and more.

Additionally, a degree in Psychology could provide beneficial insights into the human mind and behavior, potentially assisting in understanding motives, profiling, and interrogation techniques.

Note that field experience is extremely important in law enforcement careers. Internships in local law enforcement agencies, corrections, or governmental organizations could give you a firsthand glimpse into the workings of the criminal justice system.
