How beneficial are career classes in high school for college admissions?

Hey everyone, as a junior trying to plan out my senior year, how much should I be focusing on career-specific classes? Do colleges care if you've taken classes related to your intended major or career, or should I just stick with more APs?

It sounds like you're trying to make thoughtful decisions about your senior year courses, and it's great to hear that you are considering how they align with your future goals. Colleges do appreciate when students have taken classes relevant to their intended major as it shows initiative and a clear interest in the field. However, it's also important to maintain a strong academic foundation.

If the career-specific classes at your school are rigorous and have a strong reputation, they could indeed enhance your application. On the other hand, AP classes are known for their rigor and can provide a boost to your GPA and college readiness as well.

If possible, try to find a balance. For instance, if you are interested in engineering, taking an AP Calculus class along with a career-oriented class like Computer Aided Design can paint a picture of both a strong academic foundation and specific interest in your field.

Always consider your own academic strengths and interests first, and if you are passionate about a career subject, don’t shy away from taking those classes.
