As a junior in high school, top of my concerns for my future is choosing the right college for my love of computer programming. I've been focused on California colleges, but does anyone have specific recommendations about the best places for programming?
Certainly, California is home to some exceptional colleges for computer science and programming. One college that stands out when it comes to computer programming is none other than Stanford University. This is largely due to its proximity to Silicon Valley and the multitude of opportunities for internships, research, and collaborations that you wouldn't find elsewhere. Its computer science program is well-known for its breadth of course offerings and it has a specific track for Software Systems, which is closely related to computer programming.
Another notable institution is the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley). UC Berkeley's Computer Science division is among the top ranked globally, and the institution has nurtured multiple leaders in the tech industry, not to mention, the creators of languages such as RISC, Unix, and BSD.
Finally, California Institute of Technology (Caltech), known for its focus on science and engineering disciplines, also has an excellent computer science program. With a smaller size and a student-faculty ratio of 3:1, you'd have plenty of opportunities for personalized learning and mentorship.
Beyond academics, do remember to consider the school culture, location, and financial feasibility when making your decision. Best of luck!
