Accounting Majors: Laptop Suggestions?

Hey everyone, I'm a high school junior who's really into accounting and finance, and I know I'll be using a lot of software like Excel in my major. Given that, does anyone have suggestions for the best type of laptop to buy for a future accounting major?

When looking for laptops as an accounting major, you want to prioritize processing speed, storage, and durability, as you'll probably be using a lot of complex software like Microsoft Excel and accounting database software.

Starting with processing speed, accounting software can be pretty CPU intensive, so ideally, you'd want a laptop with an i5 or i7 processor or equivalent. This will allow you to easily run multiple applications and perform complex computations with no issues.

Next, think about storage. Accounting involves handling a lot of data and files, so having a laptop with a large storage capacity is crucial. At minimum, consider a laptop with 256GB of storage, but aim for 512GB or 1TB if possible. I'd recommend an SSD (Solid State Drive) over an HDD (Hard Disk Drive) for storage, as SSDs are generally faster, more durable, and more reliable.

In terms of RAM, 8GB should be your minimum, but if you're able to get more, that’s only going to improve your machine's performance, especially if you intend to run multiple applications at once.

Having a durable, reliable machine is also important since you don’t want to have to replace your laptop midway through your degree. Brands like Dell, HP, and Lenovo are known for their durability, while a MacBook might be a good option if you're more comfortable with Apple's ecosystem.

Last, consider getting a laptop with a comfortable keyboard. You're going to be typing and working with numbers a lot, so make sure the keys are comfortable and the layout works for you. A numeric keypad can be a nice addition, so check if your chosen laptop has one.

Of course, I would recommend checking out laptop reviews and considering your personal preference for elements like size, weight, and aesthetic. Also, remember to make sure the laptop fits into your budget since prices can vary widely between different models and brands.
