What are some top colleges for an International Relations major?

Hey everyone! I've always been interested in global affairs, and I'm considering International Relations as my major. I was hoping to get some ideas on which colleges excel in this field. I've tried digging into the U.S News college rankings, but I’m wondering if there’s other good sources of info out there. I’d appreciate any guidance you can provide!

Several institutions are known for strong International Relations programs, even though they may not rank at the very top in general university rankings. Here are a few:

- Georgetown University: Georgetown's School of Foreign Service is renowned worldwide. It offers a major in International Politics that's very comprehensive. The school's location in Washington D.C. is a significant advantage, as it provides direct exposure to multilateral agencies, foreign embassies, and major NGOs.

- Johns Hopkins University: The School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Hopkins is one of the leading institutions for international studies. Although SAIS primarily offers graduate programs, undergraduates at Hopkins also have plenty of opportunities to engage with international relations coursework and extracurriculars.

- Tufts University: The Fletcher School at Tufts University is another leading institution for International Relations. Like Hopkins, Fletcher primarily offers graduate programs. Yet, their undergraduates also have access to numerous course offerings and resources related to International Relations.

- Columbia University: Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs is top-rated. Columbia's core curriculum also focuses heavily on developing a global perspective, and undergrads can major in International Relations within the political science department.

- Princeton University: Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School is another standout for undergrads interested in international relations. They have a distinctly multidisciplinary approach, and their senior thesis requirement ensures in-depth study.

- Stanford University: Stanford offers an International Relations interdepartmental program that allows students to explore the field from numerous perspectives, including political, economic, historical, and more.

All of these colleges offer robust programs and significant resources for International Relations students. If possible, probing deeper into their course catalogs, speaking with current students or alumni, and considering your personal preferences concerning location, size, academic culture, and other factors can guide you towards the best fit for your academic interests and career goals.
