Future Dietitian Struggling: What are the best California colleges for Dietetics?

As a junior, I'm starting to think a lot about college. I've always had a passion for nutrition and dietetics is the direction I see myself going. Preferably, I'd like to find a good program in-state. Does anyone know the best colleges for dietetics in California?

California indeed has some fantastic options for students interested in dietetics. One option to consider is the University of California, Berkeley, well known for its strong emphasis on science and research. Berkeley offers a Bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Sciences with two track options: Dietetics or Molecular Toxicology/Dietetics, providing students with a solid foundation in the field.

San Diego State University is also home to a notable dietetics program. The Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) offered here is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Students in this program can earn their Bachelors's in Foods and Nutrition with an emphasis on dietetics.

Another strong program would be California State University, Long Beach. Their Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and Food Administration program is ACEND-accredited and emphasizes the integration of knowledge and skills related to nutrition care, foodservice systems management, and community nutrition.

Lastly, I would recommend examining the offerings at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. Their nutrition program includes a dietetics concentration and offers courses in medical nutrition therapy, community nutrition, foodservice administration, and food science and production.

Remember that it's also essential to consider factors like the total cost (including living expenses), availability of internships and hands-on experience, size of the program, and whether the atmosphere of the college fits your personality and working style. Good luck as you explore your options!
