Engineering Programs in California: What are the top choices?

Hi! Anyone else stressed about finding the right college program? My preferred discipline is engineering and I want to stay in California. Any thoughts about which institutes might be best for this? Thanks!

Hello! It seems like you might already be aware of this, but it's worth noting that California is home to some of the top engineering programs in the country.

First on almost everyone's list would be the California Institute of Technology, or Caltech. Caltech is one of the nation's most respected engineering schools, noted for its intensive curriculum and unparalleled faculty. It offers programs in a variety of engineering disciplines such as environmental science and engineering, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering, just to name a few.

Stanford University also has a highly regarded engineering school - the Stanford School of Engineering. Stanford offers a large variety of engineering majors including, but not limited to, civil and environmental engineering, electrical engineering, and bioengineering.

The University of California system also boasts a few exceptional engineering schools. The Jacobs School of Engineering at UC San Diego and the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science at UCLA are well-regarded for their commitment to research and innovation.

UC Berkeley has the renowned College of Engineering which offers top programs in industrial engineering and operations research, among others.

If you're looking at public schools, San Jose State University has a great reputation specifically for its software engineering and computer engineering programs.

Additionally, Harvey Mudd College, while lesser-known, is a small liberal arts college that focuses on science, math, and engineering. Many students find the smaller class sizes and closer connections with faculty to be quite valuable.

Lastly, the University of Southern California (USC) Viterbi School of Engineering offers a broad range of engineering programs and is committed to nurturing innovation among its students.

Obviously, the "best" program will depend a lot on your specific interests within engineering. Most of these schools have specialties within their engineering departments, so be sure to research each one to find a fit that's right for you. Do remember that the environment and the overall fit of the college matter too, besides the engineering rankings. Good luck with your college search!
