How rigorous should my high school physics course be for a STEM major?

Hey everyone! Junior here pondering my senior year schedule. I've got a strong interest in a STEM major, probably engineering or computer science, and I'm trying to figure out how rigorous my physics course should be. Should I go for the AP level, or is honors sufficient to be competitive? How much do colleges care about this?

Hello there! It's fantastic to see you planning ahead for your senior year with your prospective STEM major in mind. Taking the most challenging courses available, especially in subjects related to your intended major, is a wise move.

If you've done well in your previous science and math courses, and if you're up for the challenge, I'd encourage you to take AP Physics. It will not only prepare you for the type of coursework you'll encounter in a STEM major but also demonstrate to colleges your commitment to and preparedness for rigorous STEM studies.

Just make sure you're balancing your workload so you can still perform well across all your classes. Remember, excelling in a more challenging course can be more impressive than coasting through an easier one. Good luck with your senior year and your future STEM endeavors!
