History Major in Texas Colleges

Hi, I'm hugely into History and I'm looking for recommendations on the best Texas colleges for a History Major. Any suggestions?

Sure, you have a good array of choices in Texas when it comes to majoring in history!

The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) comes to mind right off the bat. It's known for its diverse curriculum and the wide variety of History courses it offers. From general world history to more specialized and unique courses, like the history of the civil rights movement or indigenous histories of the Americas, UT Austin gives students the freedom to specialize in their interested subfield within history.

Rice University is another institution with a strong History department. The faculty at Rice are experts in a wide range of fields, and the small student-to-faculty ratio ensures that you'll get the individual attention you need.

Texas A&M also has a reputable History department. The university offers a range of undergraduate courses that encompass various historical periods and regions, from Medieval Europe to Modern Middle East and everything in between.

Southern Methodist University (SMU)'s History department is similarly well-regarded, with the chance for students to dig into sub-disciplines, take advantage of study abroad programs, and conduct independent research.

Lastly, Baylor University is noted for its History department, which emphasizes both breadth in understanding the broad trends and movements of world history, and depth in exploring specific eras or topics in detail.

Remember to consider other factors like the location, size of the college, extracurricular opportunities, and the overall vibe of the campus when making your decision. It's equally important to ensure the college aligns with both your academic aspirations and your personal compatibility. Good luck choosing your college!
