Recommended College Majors for Car Enthusiasts?

So like, I've always been passionate about cars and I want to pursue an automotive-related career in the future. Don't really know what's the best major for this? Automotive engineering? Business admin for dealership? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Absolutely, your enthusiasm for cars can certainly translate into a variety of career paths. A few areas you may want to consider are:

1. Automotive Engineering: This is a specialized branch of mechanical engineering. As an automotive engineer, you'll use a combination of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering to work on vehicle designs, production, and operational issues. You're likely to cover modules such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, vehicle dynamics, and aerodynamics.

2. Mechanical Engineering: If you're interested in the broader aspect of how machines work, then a degree in mechanical engineering could suit you. Mechanical engineers have a broader knowledge base and can work in various industries, not just automotive.

3. Industrial Design: If the aesthetics and user experience of a car are what draw you in, consider an industrial design major. This program would allow you to focus on designing the look and feel of vehicles.

4. Business Administration/Marketing: If you're interested in the business side of the automotive industry - for example, if you might want to work at a dealership - a business administration or marketing degree can provide you with the necessary skills to succeed. Additionally, this choice provides flexibility if you happen to change your career interests later on, as these skills are widely transferable.

5. Supply Chain Management/Operations: These majors can lead to a career managing the logistics and operations of car manufacturing plants or automotive parts suppliers.

Alongside your major, consider joining a related club or organization on campus. Participation in events like the SAE International's Collegiate Design Series can make your resume more attractive to potential employers, and allow you to explore more paths within the field of automotive vehicles.

Remember, there's no "right" choice here—it largely depends on where your interest lies within the realm of the automotive industry. So, immerse yourself in that realm, explore, and make the most of your college years!

Good luck!
