Best colleges in Los Angeles for a Bachelor's Degree in Medicine?

Hey everyone, I'm a rising junior in high school residing in Los Angeles and thinking about pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Medicine. With so many fantastic colleges in LA, I'm a bit overwhelmed. Do you guys have any advice or can you suggest any top colleges in Los Angeles catering specifically to medicine students? Any sort of help would be much appreciated!

It's great that you are planning your college journey early, and focusing on an area you're passionate about. Just to clarify, Medicine is typically a professional degree that students pursue after completing their undergraduate studies. Colleges do not offer a bachelor's degree in medicine; an undergraduate major like Biology, Chemistry or any field from the natural sciences is a common choice for students who plan to attend medical school after their Bachelor’s.

Now that we've cleared that up, let's move on to your question. Several top universities in Los Angeles have pre-medical tracks and strong natural science programs.

The University of Southern California (USC) is well known for its high-quality pre-med track. They have a strong focus on science and research opportunities, which is crucial for students intending to go to medical school. This gives students the necessary foundation to prepare for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) and for the heavy science coursework in medical school.

Likewise, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has an amazingly strong Health Sciences department, which might be of interest. They have strong faculties in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics, to name a few. Moreover, UCLA's location offers a strong network and opportunities related to health and medicine.

Lastly, Loyola Marymount University, while not as large as USC or UCLA, is a private institution that offers a pre-health program for students pursuing a future in healthcare. It offers personalized advising and a rigorous course plan that can prepare you for the MCAT exam.

Consider these schools, attend open days or virtual tours if you can, and remember to verify that they offer the right courses and resources for your pre-med journey. Best of luck with your college journey!
