General Suggestions for Best Schools in California for College?

I'm a junior, and I really want to stay in California for college but I'm sort of overwhelmed by all the choices. Can anybody recommend some great schools to look at? I'm open to public, private, big, small - anything, really!

California indeed offers a rich array of colleges and universities, each with its unique strengths and atmosphere. Here are a few you might want to look into:

1. Stanford University: One of the top universities globally, it excels across fields like engineering, business, medicine, and law, among others - and boasts strong athletics programs and opportunities for research and internships in Silicon Valley.

2. University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley): One of the top public universities in the country, noted for its robust programs in social sciences, biological sciences, engineering, and more. UC Berkeley also offers a vibrant college town atmosphere.

3. California Institute of Technology (Caltech): Renowned for STEM programs, its small size (about 1,000 undergrads) allows for a tight-knit community and lots of one-on-one interaction with professors.

4. University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA): Another public research university with excellent programs in numerous fields. UCLA's campus in Los Angeles also offers lots of cultural and career opportunities.

5. University of Southern California (USC): A huge, private research university known for its programs in film, business, communications, and various other fields. Much like UCLA, USC’s location provides many benefits.

6. Pomona College: A smaller liberal arts college that’s part of the Claremont Colleges consortium, so students have access to the resources and courses at the other Claremont colleges, too.

7. University of California, San Diego (UCSD): UCSD is especially well-regarded in biology, engineering, economics, and political science.

8. University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB): Known for programs in the social sciences, humanities, and STEM. It's also just minutes from the beach, which contributes to its laid-back, friendly campus culture.

9. Loyola Marymount University (LMU): A smaller Jesuit school in LA that offers strong programs in business, film production, and engineering.

10. California State University, Long Beach (CSULB): A more budget-friendly option, CSULB is part of the Cal State system and offers a variety of programs, with health and business being strong points.

Each of these schools is unique, so I'd suggest you take the time to visit, talk with students, and really research each one to see which might be the best fit for you. Good luck!
