Computer Science programs in SoCal?

Hi there! I'm a junior looking to major in computer science, and I prefer to study in Southern California. Could anyone suggest some good colleges that have reputable computer science programs?

Absolutely, Southern California is home to some fantastic computer science programs!

One of the most well-known is the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Samueli School of Engineering's CS programs. UCLA's computer science programs combines rigorous theoretical coursework, research experience, and hands on projects to create one of the stronger CS programs in the country.

Caltech, though small and extremely selective, also offers a rigorous computer science program set in a collaborative and research-heavy environment, which is on-par with any top CS program in the country.

USC also have a strong CS program through their Viterbi School of Engineering.

The University of California, San Diego (UCSD), on the other hand, places a large emphasis on interdisciplinary studies, allowing you to explore how computer science can be applied in different fields.

If you're considering a more mixed liberal arts-science foundation, take a look at Harvey Mudd. It's one of the top liberal arts colleges for STEM and boasts an impressive computer science program.

Lastly, you might also consider California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, commonly known as Cal Poly Pomona. It's lesser-known than the rest, but it's program is very much hands-on and it has pretty strong job placement rates in the tech industry thanks to its proximity to major tech hubs.

Remember, the best program for you depends on what exactly you're looking for in a computer science education, whether it's research opportunities, internships, particular areas of specialization, class size, etc. So, make sure to research each program in-depth!
