Finding the right CC in California for CS

Hey all, I'm seriously considering majoring in Computer Science and I'm thinking about starting at a community college in California. Which ones would you guys say are the best for this field?

Community colleges are a great starting point for students interested in Computer Science, as they often offer strong foundational programs at a relatively lower cost before transferring to a 4-year college. In California, a few community colleges stand out in particular for their Computer Science programs.

1. Foothill College in Los Altos Hills has a strong Computer Science department known for its thorough curriculum. The college also has a high transfer rate to 4-year universities.

2. De Anza College, located in Cupertino, is literally in the heart of Silicon Valley, and it offers a robust Computer Science program. Their location and connections with tech companies provide students with a variety of internship opportunities.

3. Santa Monica College has a respected Computer Science program and strong transfer agreements with UCs, Cal States, and even some private universities.

4. Pasadena City College boasts a strong Computer Science program as well. They've established relationships with Caltech and other four-year schools, which can be beneficial when transitioning to a university to complete your degree.

Remember, it's not just about the strength of the program, but also the strength of the transfer relationships the school has with four-year colleges. In California, the immensely beneficial Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program can ensure a seamless transfer from community college to a participating UC after meeting certain criteria. So, make sure to also look into the TAG program and other transfer opportunities available at the community colleges you’re considering.
