Exploring Claremont Colleges for Psychology

Yo! I've been eyeing the Claremont Colleges since forever and now that I'm sure of wanting to pursue Psychology, I need your help. Which Claremont college would you guys suggest for Psychology, and why?

Hello! I'm glad to hear you're interested in the Claremont Colleges- they're a strong group of institutions. Now, the beauty of the Claremont Colleges is that you're not restricted to just taking classes at the institution you're enrolled in. The five colleges (Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Scripps, Harvey Mudd, and Pitzer) have a consortium agreement, allowing you to cross-register and take classes at any of the other colleges. This is particularly beneficial if you want to dive into specialized areas of psychology that may not be available at your home institution.

That said, Pomona College has a notably strong Psychology department with various research opportunities in areas like cognitive, developmental, abnormal, and social psychology. Pomona's psychology program is rooted in both theory and hands-on research, a combination which could provide you with a strong foundation in the field.

If you're interested in an interdisciplinary approach, you might want to consider Pitzer College. Pitzer’s program is unique because of its focus on a more holistic and broad view of psychology, tying it strongly to the social sciences and focusing on issues of social justice and cross-cultural aspects.

However, you undoubtedly wouldn't make a wrong choice with any of the Claremont Colleges. It ultimately boils down to the type of psychology program and college environment you are looking for, as each school has its own unique approach and campus culture. Good luck as you continue to explore your options!
