Hey all! I'm seriously considering Georgia Military College for after high school. I'm big into sports and want to continue in college. Anyone have experience with athletics at the Milledgeville campus? How's the competition and athletic community?
Hello! That's wonderful that you're looking to continue your athletic journey at Georgia Military College (GMC). Georgia Military College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), which is the governing body for two-year college athletics.
GMC competes in several sports - Soccer, Softball, Cross Country, Golf, Baseball, and for those interested in Football, the Milledgeville campus also has a pretty solid Junior College Football program. This breadth of athletic programs can offer you plenty of opportunities to continue in your sport or even explore new ones.
The level of competition you'll encounter largely depends on the sport. NJCAA operates on a three-division system, mirroring that of the NCAA. Division I teams are those that provide the most athletic scholarships, and competition at this level can be fierce, especially in highly competitive sports like football.
The athletic community can vary significantly by campus and sport. For the most part, athletes tend to have a strong bond owing to their shared commitment and passion. At GMC, the sports teams are often well-integrated, and the athletic culture overall is positive and supportive. The coaches and athletic staff are dedicated professionals that care about the academic success and well-being of the student-athletes.
Do check on the campus or with a counselor about the specific sport you're interested in. Ask about training schedules, coaching staff, the team's competition record and anything else that would help you in making your decision. Remember, your comfort and growth as an athlete and a student are most important. Good luck!
