Georgia Military College - what are the requirements?

Hi everyone. I am currently a high school junior thinking about applying to Georgia Military College. I'm not quite clear about the requirements needed to get into GMC, both academically and physically for the military component. Could someone shed some light on this?

Hello. Let's get into the entrance requirements at Georgia Military College.

Academically, GMC adopts an open admissions policy which means all students who wish to attend are generally accepted. Although it doesn't mean you're automatically accepted into every program. Some programs might have additional requirements or standards. As for high school records, GMC does require an official high school transcript or GED scores, and they want to see evidence of having completed a college-preparatory curriculum.

In terms of testing, local campuses do not require SAT or ACT scores for admission, but online students are required to submit SAT, ACT, ACCUPLACER, COMPASS, or ASSET test scores for course placement.

For the military component, GMC has the Corps of Cadets, which, while not mandatory for all students, requires both academic and physical standards. For students enrolling in the Corps of Cadets, a Medical Qualification is necessary. This is where your general physical health will be evaluated to determine if you’re able to perform physically exerting activities.

Most Cadets commission as officers in the Army National Guard, Reserves, or active components after graduation, but this isn't a requirement. Commissioning does require passing the Army Physical Fitness Test and meeting other military regulations regarding physical appearance and moral character.

Participation in GMC's Corps of Cadets program can be a great way to pay for college, but again it isn't required for all students. Many students at GMC are civilian students.

Do note that these are general requirements and there might be additional requirements based on the specific program you are applying to. It also doesn't hurt to reach out directly to GMC admissions for the most accurate information. Good luck with your college journey!
