College vs Military: Which is harder to get into?

Hey guys, I'm a junior and I've been pondering this for a while now. Is it generally harder to get into the military than it is to get into college? In terms of the application process and physical requirements, can anyone give some insights, please?

The difficulty of getting into college versus the military really depends on a number of factors. Let's break it down based on each pathway.

Colleges usually consider an array of factors during the admissions process. Academic performance (GPA, course rigor, SAT/ACT scores for schools not test-blind), extracurricular activities, demonstrated leadership, and your admission essay can all play crucial roles in deciding whether or not you're accepted. Highly selective colleges can have acceptance rates in single digits, making it extremely competitive.

On the other hand, joining the military also has its own set of challenges. Branches like the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Space Force all have slightly different entry requirements. Generally, you must meet physical fitness standards, have a high school diploma (or in some cases, a GED), and pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test. Some branches have additional requirements or qualifications, depending on the role you're interested in.

However, while joining the enlisted ranks in the military can be less academically rigorous than getting into a highly selective college, pursuing an officer role, such as through a service academy like the U.S. Military Academy at West Point or the U.S. Naval Academy, can be just as competitive if not more so than many colleges.

Therefore, neither is universally "harder" than the other. It truly depends on which college or branch of the military you're exploring, as well as your own strengths and goals. Consider where you want your life to head towards and make an informed decision based on that.
