College Approval for Military TA

Umm... confused but intrigued, I guess? What's the process for a college to get approved for Military Tuition Assistance (TA)? Is there a certain set of criteria they need to meet or something else?

Yes, there are indeed certain requirements that colleges must meet in order to be approved to participate in the Military Tuition Assistance (TA) program.

Firstly, the institution must be accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. This helps ensure that the education provided by that institution meets a certain set of standards – while accreditation status can't guarantee quality, it at least provides a baseline.

Secondly, the institution needs to agree to abide by the Department of Defense MOU (Memorandum of Understanding). This involves agreeing to provide certain information to military students, such as the cost of their program, the school's policies, graduation rates, among other things.

Finally, schools must also provide military students with a point of contact for academic and financial advice, as well as additional resources and support services. This is meant to provide a measure of assurance to military students that they will have the necessary support while they engage in their studies.

Once the college has met these criteria and agrees to follow the guidelines, they can be included in the TA program. Remember that not all academic programs at a school may qualify – the TA program usually covers tuition for undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as vocational/technical courses, among others.

Rest assured, once a college is approved, service members can utilize their Military Tuition Assistance benefits towards their education at that institution.
