Finding Military College Credits: Where Do I Start?

Hey all! I've heard that military service can get translated into college credits. I'm looking into this but I feel a little lost. Does anyone know how to go about finding these credits? Any advice is appreciated!

Hi there! It's great that you're looking to utilize your military service to earn college credits! From what I know, the American Council on Education (ACE) offers a Military Guide that has a pretty extensive list of military courses and occupations with their corresponding college credit recommendations.

Most colleges and universities will want to see an official transcript of your military training. Fortunately, each branch of the military has methods to request these. For example, the Army uses the Joint Services Transcript system while the Community College of the Air Force (for Air Force personnel) provides transcripts of its members' training and work experience.

Remember, each institution may view these credits differently. While one college may accept all of your credits, another may only accept a portion or none at all. So it's really critical to speak with admissions or the registrar's office at the particular school you're interested in attending.

And finally, don't forget that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs offers several programs to help veterans cover the cost of their education. This includes programs like the Post-9/11 GI Bill and the Yellow Ribbon Program.

I hope this provides a starting point. Reach out to your branch's education service office for more personalized advice and support navigating this process!
