Help with choosing a college known for military tactics?

I've always been interested in military tactics and was wondering if there are any colleges out there that have courses that specifically focus on this? I'm a junior now and working to finalize my college shortlist, so any recommendations would be super helpful!

Sure, military tactics are a unique interest for college applicants, but there are programs out there.

The first ones that come to mind are the various service academies. You have the United States Military Academy (popularly known as West Point), the United States Naval Academy, and the United States Air Force Academy. Admission to these institutions is quite competitive, and the curriculum is sharply focused on military tactics, as well as broader aspects of military science and leadership. Graduates commit to military service after graduation.

Each of these academies offers degrees in fields like Military History or Military Strategy. For example, West Point has a major in American Politics with a track that provides research opportunities in National Security and Grand Strategy. These types of programs offer the in-depth military tactics study you might be looking for.

If you're looking for civilian colleges, Norwich University and The Citadel have a reputation for Military History programs. Norwich offers a degree in War and Peace: Military History and The Citadel’s department offers a Bachelor’s in Military History.

I should note that these colleges do have ROTC programs, which include classes that focus specifically on military history and strategy.

Each program has different strengths and focuses (like the Naval Academy's maritime focus), so I'd recommend researching each school to find the best fit for you.

The key is to find a program that will cater to your specific interests in military tactics, and use those strengths to guide your college search. I hope this information helps as you continue your college search.
