Wondering about Military Technical Training

Hey folks, I came across 'military technical training' while exploring my potential routes. Is this something similar to a college degree? Or does it have a completely different value?

Military technical training essentially refers to the specific instruction and skills training that a service member receives after boot camp. It's designed to equip service members with the expertise and abilities they need to carry out their specific occupational roles within their chosen branch of service.

The value of military technical training, however, is different from a college degree--but it's not less valuable. While a college degree program tends to provide a broad education across a variety of areas, military technical training focuses on preparing you for a specific job within the military.

For example, if you enlist in the U.S. Navy and decide to become a nuclear technician, you will need to go through Navy nuclear power school. This is a rigorous six-month program that provides an intense deep dive into nuclear physics and reactor engineering.

The skills gained through military technical training can be highly transferable to civilian roles after service. Moreover, veterans are often highly sought after by employers for their discipline, adaptability, teamwork, and leadership skills, among other qualities.

In addition, some service members use their military education benefits, like the G.I. Bill, to attend college and earn a degree during their service or after they've finished their military career. This can enhance their career prospects even further by coupling their military technical training with a formal education.
