Considering the Military: Finish College First, Then Enlist?

Hey, I'm a high school junior exploring various life paths post-graduation. One of my options is joining the armed forces but I really want to finish college first. I heard about contracts that can somewhat guarantee this, but I need clarification. Can you actually enlist with a contract that guarantees you're able to finish your college education first?

Yes, there are options available that would allow you to finish college before serving in the military. For instance, you can participate in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program. In this program, you'll receive military training while attending college. Upon graduation, you would serve as an officer in the military.

Another option is attending a service academy, such as the United States Military Academy (West Point), the United States Naval Academy, or the United States Air Force Academy. At these academies, you'll complete a college education while also receiving military training.

Lastly, you may consider finishing college first, then enlisting as an officer. This would allow you complete your studies uninterrupted, after which you could attend an Officer Candidate School (OCS) or Officer Training School (OTS).

Bear in mind each of these paths has specific commitments regarding your service time upon graduation, which can vary. Therefore, it would be wise to research each option thoroughly and consider speaking with a military recruiter for guidance on choosing the right path.
