Is Marion considered a community college or a military college?

I'm having a hard time figuring out whether Marion is more military-focused or more like a community college. Can someone clarify?

It sounds like you're asking about Marion Military Institute (MMI) in Marion, Alabama. MMI is indeed a military junior college, which is a somewhat unique subset of higher education in the United States.

What sets a military junior college apart is that most offer an Early Commissioning Program where you can earn your commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army after just two years of college, rather than the typical four. That's the path some students at MMI choose, followed by transferring to a four-year college to finish their bachelor's degree. MMI offers both Army and Marine Corps ROTC programs.

However, not all students at MMI are focused on military careers. MMI also offers a civilian (or non-military) program where you can earn an Associate's degree without participating in the military elements of the school. In this respect, it functions similarly to a community college.

Ultimately, while MMI does have elements common to community colleges, it is more oriented towards military preparatory education. So depending on your personal intentions and career plans, you could see it as either a military college or a community college of sorts.
