Thinking about Mercer University and Georgia Military College

Hey folks, currently I'm torn between a few different colleges, namely Mercer University and Georgia Military College. Can anyone share experiences or insights about these two institutions, specifically concerning their military programs? What kind of opportunities do these colleges offer for someone interested in a military career?

Mercer University and Georgia Military College (GMC) each offer distinct opportunities for students interested in a military career.

Mercer University hosts the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) through a cross-town agreement with Georgia Tech. As a student, you would be able to participate in the program while attending Mercer, although your training and classes would frequently occur on Georgia Tech's campus. This could offer a fantastic opportunity if you're interested in an Air Force career pathway.

Enrolling in AFROTC provides opportunities for leadership development, physical training, and coursework in topics such as military science and aerospace studies. Successful completion can lead to a commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force upon graduation.

On the other hand, Georgia Military College, with its military junior college status, is one of only five schools in the nation that offers the Army Early Commissioning Program (ECP). The ECP allows qualified students to earn a commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Army after only two years of college.

At GMC, you'd participate in military training while pursuing your associates degree. Moreover, GMC features a unique focus on the whole-person concept, including character and leadership development, which can be very beneficial for those considering a military career.

Both Mercer and GMC provide great opportunities for future military leaders. The choice depends on the branch of military you're interested in and the type of college experience you're seeking—an Army-focused, more militaristic environment at GMC or a traditional University experience with the Air Force path at Mercer.
