What Are the Military Benefits for College Students?

Hey all. I'm currently pondering my college future and I'm curious if there are any special benefits for college students who are in the military. Can anyone explain more about this?

Absolutely, there are several benefits that the military provides to students enrolled in college.

1. Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC): This scholarship-based program offered by the Army, Navy, and Air Force provides full or partial scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students. In exchange, students participate in military training while at college and commit to service after graduation.

2. Post-9/11 GI Bill: The GI Bill covers a large portion, if not all, of your tuition and fees, provides a housing allowance, and a stipend for books and supplies for up to 36 months.

3. Montgomery GI Bill: This program provides over $60K in education benefits for service members. You pay into this program ($100 per month for 12 months), but it can be a valuable resource in helping to fund your education.

4. Military Tuition Assistance: This is a benefit paid to eligible members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. Each service has its own criteria for eligibility, obligated service, application processes, and restrictions.

5. Yellow Ribbon Program: This program allows institutions of higher learning in the United States to voluntarily enter into an agreement with VA to fund tuition and fee costs that exceed those covered by the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

6. MyCAA: The My Career Advancement Account Scholarship is a workforce development program that provides up to $4,000 of tuition assistance to eligible military spouses.

Beyond financial support, there are also non-monetary benefits such as loan repayment programs, leadership opportunities, and more. Keep in mind, most of these benefits require a certain commitment to military service following your education. Always research thoroughly and make an informed decision.
