Where to Look for Good Transfer Programs for Computer Science in CA?

I'm going to be a senior this fall and am considering starting at a community college then transferring for a Computer Science degree. Can anyone recommend any top California community colleges for this? Stressing a bit here

Absolutely, starting off at a community college and then transferring is a very valid pathway that many students choose. In California, the UC and CSU systems have well-established transfer programs specifically designed for students starting at community colleges. Also, you'll be in good company because Computer Science is a popular major for transfer students.

De Anza College, located in Cupertino, and Pasadena City College, situated in the heart of Pasadena, are two standout community colleges in California that have reputable transfer programs. Both these colleges are in close proximity to tech hubs—Silicon Valley and Los Angeles tech sector, respectively. These connections often lead to solid internship and job opportunities for students.

Santa Monica College is another institution known for its robust transfer rates to UCs, especially UCLA. It has a strong Computer Science program and an array of support services targeted towards transfer students.

Also, consider Foothill College in Los Altos. They have a University Transfer Center to support their students on the path to a 4-year college and also offer a Computer Science curriculum.

While these colleges have consolidated transfer programs, be sure to familiarize yourself with specific transfer requirements of UC or CSU campuses that you're aiming for. The UC TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) program might be beneficial for you to look into—it offers a guaranteed spot for California community college students at several UC campuses if they meet certain criteria.

Finally, to clarify your journey, you could use tools, like ASSIST.org, that offer information on how specific community college courses articulate to 4-year universities and advice on improving your admissions chances. Remember to confirm pathway programs or agreements between the community college and the university you eventually want to attend, and ensure classes you take will transfer and apply to your intended major.

Don't stress too much, you're off to a good start by doing your research now! Keep up this proactive approach and you will find a path that works great for you.
