Hey guys, I'm a bit stressed out about my love for ceramics and turning it into a career. I've heard that some California schools have great programs, but which ones are the best? I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Certainly! California has several reputable institutions where you could pursue your passion for ceramics.

Let's start with the California Institute of the Arts, known as CalArts, located in Santa Clarita. The School of Art at CalArts offers a BFA in ceramics that's impressive. The program combines studio practice with critical studies and emphasizes creating meaningful, forward-thinking work.

Next, California State University-Long Beach (CSULB) is another institution to consider. CSULB's School of Art focuses on providing a thorough mastery of the craft and regularly holds exhibitions at its art museum where students can showcase their work.

Scripps College, a women's liberal arts college in Claremont, is also renowned for its ceramics program. By the way, despite being a women's college, its Art program, which includes ceramics, is co-ed. Scripps' ceramics department is one of the oldest and most respected in the nation.

San Francisco State University (SFSU) offers a BFA with emphasis options that include ceramics. The program is known for its comprehensive instruction in various ceramics techniques and its spacious on-campus studio facilities.

Lastly, the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) has an excellent ceramics program under their Department of Art. With their broad curriculum, you can pursue research-based ceramics, traditional ceramics as well as experimental and contemporary ceramics.

Remember that aside from looking at the quality of the ceramics program, it's crucial to consider other factors when choosing a school, such as your overall interest in the curriculum, location, cost, size, and culture of the school. With your love for ceramics, it's quite likely that any of these schools could be a potential fit! Hope this helped.
