Best Psychology Programs in New York?

Hey folks, I'm a New Yorker and I'd love to stay in-state for college. Any recommendations on which colleges within New York have particularly strong Psychology programs? I'd prefer somewhere accessible from NYC but I'm open to all suggestions!

There are several quality psychology programs in New York! Depending on what you're looking for, here are a few you might consider.

For a deep dive into research-heavy programs, arguably one of the most prestigious institutes is Columbia University in NYC. Studying psychology in an Ivy League setting is certainly an experience in itself. Notably, Columbia has a strong focus on neuroscience and behavior, which could be a unique angle if you're interested in those aspects of psychology.

New York University (NYU) is another strong contender. Located right in the heart of NYC, NYU offers various concentrations from social psychology to cognition and perception, giving students the opportunity to specialize according to their interests. NYU also boasts an extensive alumni network, which can be particularly beneficial when you're seeking internships or job opportunities.

Away from the bustle of NYC, the University of Rochester's psychology program is robust as well. It offers a Bachelor’s to Master’s program, which could be appealing if you want to go beyond your undergraduate studies in less time.

Then there's Binghamton University. Although it might be a little farther from NYC, their psychology program is very well-regarded. Binghamton University, as a part of the SUNY system, provides a more affordable education compared to private universities without compromising the quality.

When assessing these programs, you should also consider factors like class size, opportunities for research or internships, and faculty. Remember, the best program for you will also match your personal goals and learning style, not just the school's reputation.
