Georgia Military College Credit Hours

Hello everyone, I'm planning on attending Georgia Military College post-graduation and trying to plan out my potential schedule. To those familiar with the college, how many credit hours do you typically take each semester? Is it manageable while also fulfilling all my ROTC commitments?

For most colleges, including Georgia Military College (GMC), a full-time student typically takes 12 to 15 credit hours per semester, generally corresponding to four or five classes. This amount allows a balance between academics and other commitments, such as ROTC.

However, GMC's quarter system is slightly different - the academic year is divided into three 8-week quarters (Fall, Winter, and Spring), plus an additional 8-week summer session. This format allows students to take fewer courses at a time while still being able to complete the same amount of coursework in an academic year. You'll typically take 2-3 classes (6-9 quarter hours) per quarter, which accumulates approximately to the same quantity in a semester system.

It's worth noting that your specific schedule will depend on the demands of your chosen major, and your time commitment to ROTC. Many students in ROTC find balancing their academic and military commitments challenging but feasible. The key is to communicate closely with your academic advisor and your ROTC leaders to ensure you're scheduling your classes, training, and studying effectively.

Keep in mind that everyone's capacity for handling workload varies, so it can be helpful to adjust your course load as you go along, starting with a moderate load your first quarter and then adjusting accordingly based on your experience and comfort level. This strategy allows you to avoid overwhelming yourself too soon. It's all about balancing your time and energy across your academic and ROTC commitments.
