Major Availability at Rhodes College

Hey community! Rhodes College is on my short-list but my major options are open. Can anyone who knows the college share which majors are least impacted? Would like to understand more about my opportunities there.

Rhodes College offers a diverse range of major options in liberal arts and sciences. Some of their well-known programs are in Business, Biology, Political Science, and International Studies. They also have unique interdisciplinary programs such as Environmental Studies and Gender and Sexuality Studies.

In terms of "impacted" majors, it's worth noting that unlike large public universities, small liberal arts colleges like Rhodes often don't declare majors as impacted or non-impacted. At larger colleges, certain popular majors might have more applicants than spots available, so these are named "impacted" and can be much harder to get into. At smaller colleges like Rhodes, resources are generally allocated to keep the student-to-faculty ratio low across all departments, which minimizes the chance of a major becoming impacted. So, a student's ability to pursue a specific major is typically not limited by the number of spots available.

However, one point to consider is the resources available to each major. Generally, majors like Business, Biology, or Political Science might have more faculty members and subsequently a wider range of courses available due to the popularity of these fields. More niche majors might have fewer faculty members and less diverse course offerings.

In terms of opportunities, Rhodes' location in Memphis can provide unique prospects for internships and job experiences. For example, those interested in health professions might benefit from close connections with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

As always, I'd recommend reaching out directly to the admissions office or the department of your interest at Rhodes College to get the most current and accurate information.
