Demographics and college graduation rates

Hey there, I'm doing some research for a school project about education. I was wondering if anyone knows what the demographic of Americans least likely to graduate college is? Any references would be super helpful.

Historically, and still currently, certain demographic groups in America demonstrate lower college graduation rates. According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), these groups are more likely to include first-generation college students, low-income students, and underrepresented minorities.

1. First-Generation Students: Those students who are the first in their families to attend college often face unique challenges that can impact their college success, including lack of familial experience with navigating the college environment and the financial pressures associated with being the first in the family to go to college. They tend to graduate at lower rates than their peers whose parents have higher education degrees.

2. Low-Income Students: Socioeconomic status plays a significant role in college graduation rates too. Often, financial strain can make it difficult for low-income students to fully concentrate on their studies, and many may have to juggle part or full-time jobs along with their coursework.

3. Underrepresented Minorities: In terms of racial or ethnic demographics, African American and Hispanic students tend to graduate at lower rates in comparison to their Caucasian and Asian counterparts, as shown by data from the NCES. Again, this statistic can be influenced by a variety of factors including socioeconomic disparities and systemic issues within the education system.

Keep in mind that this is a broad perspective and individual experiences can greatly vary. Additionally, it's important to note that there's wide acknowledgment of these disparities in the academic and policy-making communities, with many initiatives underway to close these gaps.
