General ed reqs at UCSD colleges?

In looking at my future classes for UC San Diego, which college in the UCSD system has the least amount of General Ed requirements? I'd prefer more time on my major classes, less on general education. Thanks in advance!

One of the unique aspects of UC San Diego's structure is its six-college system, each with its general education (GE) requirements. When selecting a college at UCSD, your major will remain the same no matter which you pick. The key difference is the range and type of GE courses you'll be expected to complete.

To answer your question directly: if you are looking for the college with the least GE requirements, you might want to consider Sixth College. The curriculum at Sixth College focuses on Culture, Art, and Technology, comprising about 12 courses, or around 48 units. This is slightly less than other colleges, whose requirements might push to around 60 units.

Please note, that other colleges at UCSD might have more GE courses, but they also provide unique areas of focus. For instance, Muir College, known for its spirit of "self-sufficiency and individuality," has a GE curriculum based on humanities and social sciences.

However, this is quite subjective - what may seem like a "less demanding" GE requirement may still be intense if the topic isn't in line with your interests or abilities. Hence, fully understanding the curriculum of each college can help you choose the one that best fits your academic and personal goals.
