Hey guys, I'm a high school junior and interested in attending a military academy after graduation. However, I'm not sure if I can afford the application fees. Does anyone know if military colleges offer fee waivers and how to apply for them?
The good news is that the United States service academies do not charge any application fee to prospective students. This means that students interested in applying to the United States Military Academy (West Point), the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, the Coast Guard Academy, or the Merchant Marine Academy can apply without any worry about application fees.
That said, it's important to know that applying to these institutions is generally more demanding than a regular college application process. You need a nomination from a member of Congress (or another authorized nominator) in order to even apply to these service academies, except for the Coast Guard Academy which doesn't require any nomination.
While you may not need to worry about application fee waivers, it might be helpful to check out other financial assistance opportunities they offer, such as ROTC scholarships which may cover tuition, room and board, and other expenses at non-military colleges if you decide to go that route. Good luck with your applications!
