What's the experience like at the Military College of North Georgia?

I'm really interested in the Military College of North Georgia. Is anyone here currently studying there or alumni? Would love to get any insider scoop about student life and academics.

The Military College of North Georgia (UNG) is a unique blend of a military school and a traditional college, creating an intermingled experience of discipline and engagement.

On the academic front, the school shines in a variety of fields. One of the top majors at UNG is in the field of Criminal Justice, which pairs well with the structured nature of the Corps of Cadets. However, the school also offers a diverse set of programs from Nursing to Business, Social Sciences, and STEM fields.

Classes are relatively small and afterwards, students usually dive into their military training. This includes physical training, leadership development exercises, and field training exercises. As with most military schools, expect days to start early with morning physical training and structured schedules throughout the day.

In terms of student life, being a part of the Corps of Cadets can be challenging but also fulfilling. There is a strong sense of community and camaraderie among cadets due to shared experiences and lifelong friendships are often formed. Remember, the military aspect is a significant part of life at UNG, so students are expected to maintain a certain appearance and adhere to a military lifestyle.

Extracurricular activities include clubs pertaining to various interests and fields of study, sports, and community service opportunities. Participation in these activities is highly encouraged as it helps students blow off steam after a long day and engage more closely with the UNG community.

The housing situation for most students is living on campus, especially for those in the Corps of Cadets. The cadet residence halls are modern and spacious and they offer a comfortable living experience - Cadets live together in 'companies', encouraging a sense of unity and shared responsibility.

In terms of post-graduation, many UNG students are commissioned as officers in the U.S. Army upon graduation, but there’s no obligation to do so. The school's rigorous curriculum and strong leadership training are known to position students well for both military and civilian careers.

Lastly, on a social aspect, the school is located in the city of Dahlonega which is known for its picturesque downtown filled with quaint shops, restaurants, and, of course, a lot of history. So, there's plenty to do outside the campus as well.

Hopefully, this provides a broad overview of life at UNG! The experience can be very rewarding if you appreciate the blend of military life with traditional college elements.
