The least applied to colleges across the US

Hello everyone, I'm considering applying to some less popular colleges (those which don't get as many applications), thinking that I might have a better chance there. Does anyone have a list or know of which colleges are least applied to in the United States?

While it's perfectly logical to consider lesser-known or less popular schools as a way to possibly enhance your admission chances, keep in mind that the competitiveness of a school isn't solely defined by the number of applicants it gets. A "less applied to" school could still be highly selective if it has fewer available seats. That said, there isn’t an all-inclusive list of least applied-to colleges as this can fluctuate from year to year based on various factors.

However, regional colleges or schools that specialize in particular fields often have fewer applicants than more well-known universities. You might find fewer applicants at schools like Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage, Ripon College in Wisconsin, or specialized schools like the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Indiana, which focuses on engineering, science, and mathematics.

Also, small liberal arts colleges, certain religious-affiliated schools, or schools located in rural or less populated areas may receive fewer applicants. Examples could include Antioch College in Ohio or Thomas Aquinas College in California.

Please note, it's vital to consider not just the number of applicants but also the school's fit with your academic interests, social preferences, and financial considerations. An overlooked school can be a hidden gem if it aligns with your goals and ambitions. Consider using tools like CollegeVine’s college search feature to find schools that meet your criteria but may be less popular or less applied to.
